Improving Paddocks for Horse Health
Friday 9th June, 10am – 3pm, at Hungerford Club, 3 The Croft, Hungerford, Berkshire, GB, RG17 0HY
Featuring experienced speakers, this workshop will discuss sustainable paddock management and how implementing certain practices can improve the health and well-being of your horse and your land. This is a continuation of our previous workshop of “Healthy Horses, Healthy Land”.
Topics will include:
– Using grazing management to improve nutrition for horse well-being and behaviour
– Planting trees to safely to benefit horses and paddocks
-Understanding manure and water management to build resilience into your paddock
– Working with dung beetles to provide additional benefits to you and the environment

Southern Water’s Nitrate Measures Scheme and Rural Funding
In order for farmers and landowners to find out more about Southern Water’s Nitrate Measures Scheme and how this fits with other sources of rural funding, Southern Water and FWAG South East have organised two free drop-in sessions:

The regenerative approach: farm resilience and the wider environment
Wednesday 7th December, from 10am at Pitt Hall Barn, Pitt Hall Farm, Ramsdell, Basingstoke RG26 5RJ.
At this free workshop you’ll hear from Hampshire farmer Tim May on the benefits he’s seen from a regenerative approach to his mixed farm, along with speakers from FWAG South East and South East Water and more.
Tim May runs the 1100 hectare mixed farm on Kingsclere Estate, farming regeneratively to increase biodiversity and ensure sustainability.
We’ve worked together with Tim to implement nature-based solutions to improve water resilience on his farm and he’ll be sharing his experience of transitioning from broadacre arable to mixed organic farming over the last 10 years.
Soil Association workshop guides farmers through changes in support payments

This free workshop is open to all farmers but is of particular interest to those with organic, low input and in-conversion systems. You can also get a free 1-2-1 session if your farm business is currently in receipt of BPS payments.

FWAG South East are providing FREE Countryside Stewardship one-to-one advice sessions for farmers and land managers on behalf of Natural England
The East of England FWAG Consortium (also covering the entire South East region) on behalf of Natural England, are offering the opportunity for a 1.5 hour, one-to-one advice session by video or phone to discuss a potential Mid-Tier application and how to build an application for your farm. We can run through which parts of the scheme might be most appropriate for the farm and your business, any target areas or species that might be relevant, the most suitable options and their requirements and also explain the application process.

Cover crops and the new ELM schemes
In February we will hold our first event of the year with a visit to cover crop trial plots in the Woodgarston catchment, as part of a project with South East Water. We will hear from expert speakers about the role of cover crops in the farm system by South East Water, Frontier Agriculture and FWAG South East, and how they play a role in the new ELM Scheme.
