Southern Streams Farmer Group

Southern Streams Farmers Group is made of 30 farmers and landowners, who look after over 10,000ha between Marlborough, Hungerford and Ludgershall.

The group aims to work together to accomplish landscape scale results, especially for vulnerable chalkstreams in the River Kennet catchment. The group area also includes chalk downland and ancient woodland.

Priorities of the group are:

• Protecting water quality, especially the chalk streams and winterbournes
• Healthy soils for water storage, carbon capture and fertility
• Enhancing and connecting biodiversity
• Improving woodlands and hedgerow condition
• Communicating their message with the local community

Successful projects have included wetland creation, regenerative soil monitoring, over 100 next boxes setup, education visits and farm signs, planting hedgerows and trees.
